Bruklenu, Architect's House, Sulcu maja

LAYOUT1

A home in Riga designed by architects for their own use. Located in a wooded neighbourhood. The architects meticulously planned the placement of the house on the plot of land to integrate the old birch trees in the landscape. Every window is placed to make the most of the surroundings and connect the interior with the nature outdoors. The home was built off-site as a prefab. The cladding is quality timber sourced in Estonia and treated with the Tikkurila Grey Wood product which gives the home a silver patina. Its slanted southwestern facade creates the visual impression that the house is sliding. An intentionally sculptural shape. The timber is complemented by a metal entrance portal and window frames. The metal was allowed to rust naturally.

LAYOUT1

LAYOUT2

Every part of the property plays a role in the overall story. The concrete patio is a smooth continuation of the house connecting it to the garden with outdoor fireplace.

Indoors, the story continues with the use of timber for walls and ceilings, as well as the colour palette. Although, at 189 m2 the overall square footage is large, every bit of space is functional.

LAYOUT3

The staircase with integrated storage is a noteworthy feature designed to be both visually striking and practical.

LAYOUT3

The furniture at this home in Riga is a mix of self-designed and collection pieces which are a smart way to add colour.

Stokholmas

LAYOUT1

An apartment in one of the world’s first “garden cities”. Riga’s neighbourhood of Mezaparks flourished within the development of Art Nouveau villas in the early 20th century, followed by Functionalism style gems in the interwar period. In respect of the local context and heritage, the apartment continues the style but also considers today’s standards, the client’s needs and desires. OAD was tasked with delivering a complete design project from devising floor plans through to overseeing the construction process.

LAYOUT2

The clients – a family of five – required a master bedroom, a second bedroom for the teenage son and a third for their two young daughters and overnight nannies, a living area, kitchen and two bathrooms, all with ample storage. The apartment needed to be baby and toddler proof, considering how young their daughters are.

LAYOUT3

The design is informed and inspired by Functionalism as seen in the rounded corners, colour scheme, patterns and two-tone walls. The furniture is a combination of bespoke designs by OAD and designer pieces influenced by Danish design classics. The bathtub is a sentimental heirloom from the clients’ former home, and OAD integrated it in the new apartment.

Valgums,

LAYOUT1

The Valgums project represents a transformative journey from architectural dysfunction to refined living. Initially acquired as an unfinished residential structure bereft of both aesthetic and functional considerations, the property has been thoroughly reimagined into a well-designed lakeside home.

LAYOUT3

LAYOUT3

The redesign prioritizes spacious living areas and a grand master bedroom, with high ceilings amplifying the sense of openness. The  two-level master bedroom with its own bathroom was created by transforming the original garage, and allowed to add another layer of comfort for the owners. A dedicated office space that fits seamlessly into the layout, providing both privacy and accessibility was included as a part of the two level master bedroom design.

It’s always about the right place and right time.
Place Eleven isn’t just a regular office building. It’s a piece of sustainable architecture, it’s smart and the lobby is its essence. The lobby sees people coming and going, meeting, talking and making business happen. This constant sense of movement inspired us. With a little help from something as natural as sunlight together with Gints Gabrāns we created a happening for residents and guests of Place Eleven. It happens only one time per day – the right time.Inspired by sunlight we thought of place a large light laser in the lobby. The laser is beamed towards its target via mirrors which further direct the light towards a decorative wall of glass prisms, scattering white light all around.
That’s when IT happens.
Right place. Right time.

LAYOUT1

We designed the Ecosphere housing quarter project for West Berlin, a vision that unfortunately was never realized. This project was conceived at a time when sustainability was just beginning to gain importance, yet it was already fully embracing green living. With a community-centric design, it featured urban gardening, playgrounds, recreation zones, and bird-watching areas. Despite being a multi-story residential building, we integrated a sense of privacy with private houses on the roofs. This design allowed residents to enjoy the entire quarter as their backyard while also having a special place just for their own family.

The goal of the Elemental project is to create a contemporary, sustainable office complex for companies that genuinely value their employees, clients, and partners. OAD designed the interior of the lobby, parking areas, and other shared spaces, shaping an atmosphere that is both inspiring and functional. The result is a balanced and motivating work environment, with human well-being and business growth at its core. Through thoughtful material choices and spatial clarity, the common areas serve as a welcoming extension of the workplace.

Olga Ponomarjova, Sergejs Zarovnijs

LAYOUT1

An apartment complex surrounded by quiet streets and green courtyards in the quarter between Ernestines, Dreilinu, Ormanu and Struteles streets. Laconic, modern architecture that lives in line with Agenskalns’ historic wooden and brick low-rise buildings. The silhouette of buildings with their gable roofs and natural finishing harmoniously fits into the visual character of the neighbourhood and enriches it. In turn, the ecological building materials and natural tar paint for the facade make the dwellings sustainable and friendly both for man and nature.

LAYOUT2

For every building, a front and back garden with flowering shrubs has been tended, so to bring dwellers closer to the nature while living the dynamic city rhythm. The landscape is designed with families in mind, so that every generation finds a place for both leisure and active pursuits.

LAYOUT1

The children’s playground consists of a multifunctional wooden installation, shock absorbing rubber clad relief for climbing and games, a secret tree house, sports area and mountaineering wall. All of this has been functionally and almost imperceptibly integrated into the residential complex, creating a contemporary, comfortable and inspiring environment.

The ant sculpture is a tribute to the fact that they found a rare species of ants that prevented construction, so we put a playground there.

Apartment Building

LAYOUT1

In the golden glow of autumn evenings, the building’s striking façade comes to life, designed to echo the dynamic aesthetic of Baznīcas Street. It engages in a subtle visual dialogue with its surroundings: the nearby St. Gertrude Church, ornate Art Nouveau architecture, and the emerging eclectic developments. The design pays special attention to the building’s proud centrepiece - the bay window - interpreted here as a reflective, dark monochrome volume that draws attention through texture and pattern. A bold yet harmonious statement within the evolving cityscape.

LAYOUT1

Located on Tomsona iela, this building reflects the distinct character of the street — a quiet and refined corner of Riga where functionalist-style architecture dominates. The area is marked by modestly scaled buildings with clean lines, smooth plaster façades, and a strong sense of clarity and order, true to the ideals of functionalism.

The building itself highlights a classic feature from the period — an accentuated first floor. As was typical of the time, the base level is subtly elevated and defined, grounding the overall composition and adding architectural rhythm to the otherwise minimalist form.
